Magazine
Wajd, a bi-annual magazine on Sufism. The magazine, the first of
its kind in Asia, will attempt to bridge the gap between academic and mainstream writing on
Tasawwuf, to archive the modern, cosmopolitan and global citizen's experience of Sufism.
In view of the larger and unfortunate rise in Islamophobia and seething factionalism within
the faith, the magazine seeks to uphold the transcendent beauty of the Sufi philosophical
thought which not only nourishes the heart of Islam but represents the beautiful crux
between faith and culture.
Wajd
The magazine aims to build an evolving archive on Sufi/Tasawwuf studies. It will bring together
quality and contemporary scholarship on Islamic spiritual and mystical studies, focusing on the
Sufi traditions of South Asia, Central Asia and Middle East.
In this way, the magazine will chronicle the ecstasy and link it to the modern individual's
experience of Sufism.
The magazine in its publication and composition aims to engage and involve renowned and emerging
scholars, academics, researchers, Sufi practitioners, artistes, teachers, students, and creative
practitioners. Our collective purpose will be to work towards constructing an active awareness
of the modern, secular and spiritual Islam.
The magazine will highlight the beautiful, the peaceful, the calming, the creative and the
intensely soul-satisfying spirituality inherent in the founding philosophy of Islam, and to
bring to fore the dynamics between Sufism and Islam as interchangeable, and not opposing terms.
